A little-known FAA rule requiring a weather satellite to be certified by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for operation and maintenance is causing headaches for the agency.
A few days ago, NOAA officials issued an advisory that the satellite that was being considered by the FAA could not be certified for use as a weather station, which is defined as one that provides forecasts and forecasts data to users.
The agency said the satellite would have to be replaced or at least retrofitted.
The FAA has not responded to multiple requests for comment.”NOAA’s noaa satellites are designed to provide data for weather, climate and natural hazards,” the agency wrote in its advisory.
“NOAA is working with its partners to determine what will replace the noaa mission.
The decision will be made in a timely manner and will address concerns regarding weather accuracy and reliability.
NOAA will be providing additional guidance on the new noia mission and what the certification process will look like.”
The agency said it will require the replacement of the satellite if it is deemed a “non-operational weather satellite,” or one that is not “used or expected to be used as a daily weather satellite” in the future.
This means the satellite will no longer be able to provide forecasts for the day or any other time of the year.
The rule also requires that the replacement be performed by a third party.
The FAA did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.
The agency has not released a list of all of the satellites being studied, and it is unclear whether any are currently operational or are under development.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the agency has reviewed more than 1,000 satellite applications submitted for approval, and the agency is still considering the applications.
NOAA officials said it is working to determine which of the applications are appropriate for approval and will provide more details in the coming weeks.
The noaa program has been controversial in the past.
In 2013, Congress barred the FAA from using its noaa meteorological satellites to track any weather or climate events, citing concerns about satellite coverage and accuracy.
The noaa system has been a hot topic in the debate surrounding climate change and weather.
The first noaa constellation was launched in 2003, and more than 4,000 people have worked on the system.
The satellites are used by the Weather Service of America and other weather service organizations, as well as the National Weather Service, which has an office in Salt Lake City.
